Tasting of Award-Winning Georgian Wines from the IWSC Held at UK Sommelier of the Year 2025

On 8 July in London, as part of the UK Sommelier of the Year 2025 competition (held in London since 1980 to select the UK’s best sommelier), an exhibition and tasting of the award-winning Georgian wines from the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC 2025) took place.

For the second time, Georgian wines that had won gold and silver medals at the competition were showcased in London. The first occasion was in May 2024, during the London Wine Fair, where the IWSC hosted over 100 medal-winning wines. This year, the Georgian wines presented at the final stage of the UK Sommelier of the Year competition were specially selected based on their high scores. Guests had the opportunity to taste these medal-winning wines crafted by Georgian winemakers.

As part of the event, the IWSC held a wine tasting session led by Master of Wine Sarah Abbott. The introduction and evaluation of Georgian wines were attended by British buyers, sommeliers, restaurateurs, and hundreds of guests.

The winning wines of the IWSC 2025 Wine and Spirits Judging in Georgia, held in Georgia, were featured in the IWSC’s exclusive space. The event was supported by the National Wine Agency of Georgia.

It is noteworthy that at the UK Sommelier of the Year 2025, the title of Best Sommelier of the Year was awarded to Greek head sommelier Maria Boumpa, with 40 professionals from across the country participating in the competition.

The UK Sommelier of the Year is one of the most important events in the UK’s hospitality industry, recognizing the professionalism and skills of sommeliers nationwide. It is attended annually by leading representatives of the wine industry, including buyers, sommeliers, and Masters of Wine.
